Mountain Lane School

Croeso i Dosbarth 11.../Welcome to Class 11...

Dosbarth 11-Miss Braid

Miss Braid, Mrs Bignell, Mrs Shaw and Mrs Davies would like to welcome you to Year 5.

Autumn Term
In Year 5 this term our topic will be all about '19th Century Britain'. We will be learning all about daily life during this time, the inventions, key events, school and key figures. We will also be looking forward to taking part in a school trip to visit Blists Hills, a recreated Victorian town and experience what real life was like when Britain ruled the world!
Our Design Technology project this term is also linked to our topic, where we will be working together to design and make puppets of characters based on our class text 'Street Child'.
Our Science topic this term will looking at 'Materials'. We will be taking this opportunity to learn all about the various materials used around us and the importance of different materials being used for different purposes in everyday life. We will be carrying out lots of fun practical activities and investigations.
PE Kit
During this term pupils will be taking part in Hockey and Rugby lessons. Outdoor kit will be required for these as follows:
Black  shorts,  Black  Mountain  Lane  T-Shirt and Trainers. If pupils feel the weather is a little chilly a plain black long sleeved jumper and plain black jogging bottoms will be suitable to wear.
Year 5 PE lessons are every Monday and Wednesday.
If PE is unable to go ahead we will try to 'make up' for this 'lost' lesson and so it is advisable for children to bring their PE kit daily, just in case.
Homework Reminders
Last year Year 5 we enjoyed being a little more independent in our homework choices, utilising and expressing skills we hadn't even realised we had, choosing from a range of homeworks that suit our skills/talents!
This year we will be doing the same and using our pupil voice to think of and choose our own ideas for activities for our homeworks.
All homework tasks will be explained before they go home but remember to ask your teacher, in plenty of time before its due date (Tuesday 23rd October - all 3 homeworks), if you are in sure.
Monday-  Home School Reading Book / Reading Wall to be returned.
Tuesday-  Homework due- if an activity has been completed.
Friday- Home School reading Books / Reading Walls to go home.
Come and take a look at what we have been up to so far this term...
