Dosbarth 10 -
Mrs Bignell & Mr Downes
Croeso i'r tudalen Dosbarth 10!
Welcome to the Class 10 page!
This term we will be starting with 'World Week', during which we will be finding out all about life in Brazil, as well as designing and making carnival masks and looking in depth at the Amazon Rainforest and its many 'layers', as well as studying its many animal inhabitants. Following that, we will begin an exciting new topic called 'Trees, Glorious Trees' which is, in case you haven't guessed, all about trees! Continuing with our study of the Amazon Rainforest, we will shift our attention to the issue of deforestation, leading up to a whole class debate. We will carry out work based upon the story of the 'Great Kapok Tree' and write tree-based Kennings poems, as well as studying other aspects of trees, such as their structure, the carbon cycle and photosynthesis.
PE lessons are on Mondays and Wednesdays. Children will need to attend school in their Mountain Lane PE kit on these days.
Year 4 are timetabled for the forest on Tuesday mornings. On these days the children should come in to school dressed in suitable, warm clothing and waterproof coat. They should also bring a change of footwear e.g. wellies / walking boots.
A Homework Grid has been sent out on Google Classroom with tasks set for this term. With the grid is an explanation of what is expected. In summary, there are 4 tasks. 2 of these tasks are to be completed weekly - Language, Literacy and Communication (Reading books and learning weekly spellings) and Maths and Numeracy (TT Rockstars Practice). THe other 2 are to be selected from the other areas of learning on the grid and should be uploaded to Google Classroom.
Here are just a few of the photos taken during our amazing 3 days at Pentrellyncymer (more can be viewed on our Google Classroom). While we were there we took part in canoeing, mountain biking, bushcraft, walking and the Pentre Trail.
Year 4 spent a fantastic day walking up and down Moel Famau, supported by the local rangers.
We made carnival masks as part of our World Week topic on Brazil. Do you have a favourite?!
We designed space logos for the national 'Logo Lift-Off' competition. If one of them wins it will be painted on the side of the first ever rocket to take off from the UK!!!
We designed, made and painted useful household items out of clay.
Here is our Christmas poem video - 'A Visit from St Nicholas'.
During the Autumn Term, we visited Lane End Nature Reserve to do some pond dipping. It was great fun, even though we didn't find many frogs and newts.
We also walked Buckley Heritage Trail to find out about the history of Buckley brickmaking. And we stopped at the playground for break!
