Mountain Lane School

Dosbarth 10

Croeso i'r tudalen Dosbarth 10!!! Welcome to the Class 10 page!!!

Tymor yr Gwanwyn / Spring Term

This term in year 4 we will be completing out topic  on Tywyll a Golau (Dark and Light) before a smooth transition into 'Trydan' (Electricity). The children have been enjoying taking part in two Mantle of the Expert activities - one linked to creating Shadow PuppetTheatres and a short one linked to the book 'The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark'.

The  transition event at the Elfed linked perfectly to our topic and the pupils very much enjoyed  the Stardome and watching demonstrations to further develop their knowledge and understanding of light.  We were amazed by some of the knowledge the children shared.

Later this term, we will start a History topic on the Tudors. We will carry out pupil planning for this to ascertain what the children might like to find out and what sort of activities would appeal to them. We look forward to their ideas.

PE lessons are on Mondays and /or Wednesdays. Children will primarily require indoor kit: Mountain Lane t-shirt (new green style or the old black ones if they still fit), black shorts /skort. Class 10 will normally have their PE session on a Monday during this term and will take part  in a swimming lesson on Tuesdays as their second PE lesson. Occasionally, it may be necessary for Class 10 to have PE on a Wednesday and so it is advisable to have kit in school on both days.

If children wear earrings, a note is required if you give them permission to wear these during PE lessons. Please ensure that tape is provided, to cover them up.

Homework and reading

At the beginning of each half term every child in Year 4 will be given a sheet detailing a variety of possible homework tasks. We would like each child to complete some of the activities at home. These can be brought into school at any point during the half term where they will be shared with the rest of the class. We would be grateful if you could assist your child completing the tasks by the completion date.

This year, children in Year 4 will bring a reading book home  on a weekly basis. We will be sending these home on a Friday and ask that they be returned on the following Monday.

In year 4 the children in both classes will be mixed for spellings. They will all bring a spelling list home on a Monday in preparation for a spelling test which will take place during the following week.
