Welcome to Outdoor Learning at Mountain Lane School! Children are fortunate to be able to access a wide range of activites outside, with activities outside complementing their learning inside the classroom.

Children in earlier school years each have access to their own outside area, whilst older children participate in a range of activities utilising the outside space.

This year, each year group is accessing blocks of Forest Schools sessions in our very own woodland area with Forest School trained Mrs L. Smith. During these sessions, children have the opportunity to develop a wide range of skills, including (but not limited to):

  • social and emotional skills,
  • team work and communication,
  • creativity and imagination,
  • risk assessment and how to keep themselves safe,
  • geographical and navigational skills,
  • investigative and explorative skills.

Children access activities with adults and there is also ample opportunity for independent exploration. Throughout their time at Mountain Lane School children will have the opportunity to use a variety of tools, build dens and use and learn about fire. The mud kitchen is always a hit too!

We are always on the lookout for resources to use in the woodlands; if you think you have anything which may be of use please contact your class teacher or Mrs L. Smith in Year 3.
