In the Autumn term, as part of our topic ‘Dyma Fi – Marvellous Me’, the children will explore their five senses through a variety of engaging, hands-on activities, helping them to understand the world around us. They will also consider how they have changed and grown over time, reflecting on their development from babies to the present day and creating their own growth timeline to show this journey. The children will enjoy role-playing as doctors and nurses in our hospital area, developing their imagination and deepening their understanding of how to care for others.
Our Spring term topic will be ‘Once Upon a Time’. The children will begin by exploring their local area, learning about the homes, buildings, and features within their community. Through this, they will develop a stronger sense of belonging and deepen their understanding of ’Cynefin’. They will then travel back in time to discover what life was like long ago, taking on the role of servants in our Victorian kitchen and exploring household artefacts from the past and present. Through magical storytelling adventures, the children will listen to and retell traditional fairy tales.
In the Summer term, our final topic of the year will be ‘Creepy Crawlies and Things that Grow’. The children will enjoy exploring the school grounds on exciting bug hunts, creating minibeast collages inspired by the artwork of Henri Matisse and local artist Tim Pugh, and learning how bees communicate through their fascinating ‘waggle dance’. The story 'Superworm' by Julia Donaldson will encourage the children to design their own superhero minibeasts and invent exciting rescue adventures. Throughout the topic, they will learn about caring for the environment and discover how to grow and nurture plants. To celebrate their learning, the children will invite their families into school to visit their very own pop-up Garden Centre.
